Disruption Management

FP1 MOTIONAL

SISCOG is involved in FP1 MOTIONAL, Europe’s Rail Flagship Project 1, as an affiliated entity by the invitation of NS-Netherlands Railways, the beneficiary.

This MOTIONAL* project aims to enhance the planning and management of rail services to meet Europe's goal of making rail the preferred transport mode. It focuses on creating a future European railway system that is interoperable, resilient, adaptable, and well-integrated, leveraging digitalization to improve efficiency.

The initiative involves two main workstreams:

  • Workstream 1: Focuses on planning and operational management, including interactive timetable planning and operational systems, as well as integrating services for seamless door-to-door mobility.
  • Workstream 2: Develops digital tools and solutions to support rail destinations across Europe, facilitating broader digital transformation in the rail system.

Virtual Assistant for Disruption Management

Among the work packages involving SISCOG is the "Virtual Assistant for Disruption Management" tool, which is based on CREWS and with its preliminary release at InnoTrans 2024.

As part of the CREWS Real-time Dispatcher - a multi-user disruption management decision support system for staff dispatching – this tool detects a disruption, finds a suitable recovery plan and adjusts the work assignments accordingly without any human intervention. It does so, according to a given policy that defines the conditions under which scheduling decisions can be taken in a complete autonomous way.
